Summer Fruit Bead Necklaces

My daughter and I, have certain rituals before bedtime. As most people do. Besides the usual, no more snacks, ya should have eaten your dinner, go brush teeth, go brush teeth, go BRUSH TEETH,  put on your pajamas, pajamas, PA–! Get in bed, I said – BED…!  We do eventually get to the reading stories, giggling, cuddling and  talking about our day… Somedays we even bust out our pencil crayons and color together in those relaxing color therapy books.  But lately, we started a new thing where we like to make necklaces and bracelets with beads and string. It’s actually really calming and a peaceful activity before bedtime. And a special bonding moment, also.

Since we were quickly running out of beads, I searched online and came across these colorful fruit beads on Amazon. I thought they would make the cutest summery little necklaces.

I already had some string on hand.

And my daughter and I, lay on the bed and beaded necklaces together every night before bedtime.

They even look cute on chain necklaces.

We actually ended up liking them so much we decided to package them up for my daughter’s annual school fundraiser at school.

I just bought some clear goody bags, and blank stickers, and packaged them up. So cute.

I tied a knot at the end of each last bead so it can’t move, and on each end of the string to make it adjustable. Click here to see how I did it on another one of my necklace posts.

Grandma is visiting from Canada, so they did this together. We just put the music on in the background and had a nice relaxing crafting pumpkin day. Sounds sweet, because it is…

Getting Ready for Easter: Homemade Flowers by Tots

Every so often, as they come, I like to take mental notes of ‘things I never expected with having a baby.’ And today, added to the list was: BUSY, NO REST WEEKENDS.

I’m starting to feel like I’m in a strange SCI-FI  flick, where my present and future self are somehow altering my past, including my memories. Like what it felt like to sleep in uninterrupted. How my couch felt like when it was expertly molding itself to my back. What soft lazy slippers sounded like against clean, hardwood floors. And how a hot cup of tea could rest in my hands with the same reverence of a tiny newborn puppy while staying put so fine and so warm.

But alas! I must not think of such frivolities anymore! As there are things to do, and things to accomplish! And no matter how busy our weekend has been, look what we managed to create.

Easter Arts n' Crafts. Flowers with beads and pipe cleaners.

Homemade Easter flowers.

Made in: Recycled baby food jars. (You can also use small mason jars). With: Easter colored beads, pom poms, feathers, modeling clay, pipe cleaners, gems and washi tape.

To beautify the jars, I took pink and white polka dotted washi tape and secured it around the top.

We then took pink and yellow modeling clay (it is very soft and spongy) and smoothed it into the bottom of the jar. Added some pom poms and gems on top.

Cut up some pipe cleaners into different lengths, stuck them into the clay and fed beads through them. On one, we  decided to stick in some pretty feathers.
