‘Tis the season for dry skin. And DIY gifts for neighbors and friends. I’ve decided to combat both this year by making some of these: Homemade, peppermint, coconut oil, sugar scrub.
I’ve made DIY hot cocoa jars, Anthropologie-inspired snow globe jars and peppermint bark a few years back. But this peppermint coconut oil sugar scrub is my favorite DIY gift so far. Because it’s super easy to make, looks simple and pretty and smells absolutely divine! AND, it leaves your body feeling amazingly soft and smooth.

Did I mention they’re also super easy to make? After making these, I really can’t believe how people spend $$$ on coconut oil sugar scrubs at the store. Especially because these are, in my humble opinion, just as good, if not better.
All you need are 3 ingredients:
And glass jars.
I fiddled around with the measurements and decided a cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of oil is perfect. With around 10 drops of peppermint oil. All you have to do is melt the coconut oil on low, let it cool, pour on top of the sugar, add the drops of oil and mix.
Tada! Done. The peppermint oil is probably the most expensive thing on the list, but it will last you a long time. I made one of these for all my neighbors and girlfriends last year. I’m thinking of making some for my mom this year since she will be here in LA this Christmas. I’m thinking for the spring I’ll change up my scrub with lemon. But I do love Christmas season. After Halloween, Christmas is a close second for my favorite time of year! What DIY plans do you all have this Christmas?
I’m also planning on eating cookies for breakfast. Real ones, not breakfast cookies. And stringing popcorn with my little one. Putting candy canes in tiny vases around the house beside sprigs of pine. And listening to Christmas music all day long.
Yay for December!
Naturally, this kids bento lunchbox will have leftover turkey. It would be cruel not to make a healthy club sandwich for my daughter, the day after Thanksgiving. Because these clubs are SO good. And leftovers are the best. I try to make things that are […]
What’s the best part of Thanksgiving turkey? The leftovers. Hands down. For us, leftover turkey means days of delicious turkey sandwiches covered in cranberry sauce. Our favorite version? This healthy club sandwich I made today. I took the classic club sandwich and ‘healthified’ or ‘hipsterfied’ […]
It’s Post Thanksgiving. Time to get back into the health grind. For me it starts with a healthy, fruit and veggie packed smoothie. I know it’s not a new thing. But it’s a new thing for me these days. Smoothie Prepping has been my lifesaver. It’s surprising how little time smoothie prepping actually takes. And the ease of just popping it into a blender is the best. I have a few combinations that I love, but my top two favorite flavors are these.
The first one is this Peach Mango Spinach Smoothie.
I pre-package into ziplock baggies:
1 cup of frozen organic mango
1 cup of frozen organic peach
1 cup of organic spinach
1 organic ripe banana
(for your convenience, affiliate link:)
And then in the morning, or sometimes even as an evening snack I just pop it into my Vitamix with 1 cup of organic unsweetened almond milk. The unsweetened vanilla is also good.
My second favorite go-to flavor is this pineapple blueberry smoothie. I pre-pack into ziplock baggies:
1 cup of frozen pineapple
1 cup of organic frozen blueberries
1 organic ripe banana
1 tsp of all natural unsweetened peanut or almond butter
Then when ready to consume, pop it into the blender with a cup of organic unsweetened almond milk!
You can even pre-blend them and put them into a glass mason jar and freeze them. Just take them out and let them thaw in the fridge overnight and it’s ready to grab and go.
Prepping takes so little time. My husband and I tag team and get it all done under 10 minutes. Then we pop all the bags into the freezer. It makes things so much easier in the morning, and makes it so much easier for the family to eat healthy. We like to make smoothie bowls by adding fruit and chia seeds on top. You can even add nuts, coconut, flax seeds, anything you want really. Or just drink them plain on the go.
My daughter LOVES these smoothies. In the evening, we sometimes have it as our dessert. It’s naturally so sweet and yummy. And I love that it is dairy-free. The frozen banana gives it the nice creamy consistency.
So who’s smoothie prepping this week?!
Trust me, smoothie prepping is THE BEST! It makes your life so much easier and healthier! And it’s a great snack/breakfast/dessert for kids!

Yogurt Parfaits are by far the easiest bento lunch you can make. And Els loves it, which makes it even more easy. Here I used: Plain Greek Yogurt Pomegranates Granola Brown Rice Crisps Chia seeds Strawberries and Grapes (For you convenience, affiliate link:) Stainless steel […]
